On occasion, a student will decide to engage in a research project which involves faculty from two different departments or colleges or two faculty from the same department who have very different research interests. In this case, the interdisciplinary thesis/project number is most appropriate.

For example, you may choose a research topic that is central to the work of two faculty members from different departments. Although they are located in different academic areas, they are both interested in your topic and willing to be involved as advisors for your thesis/project. A hypothetical example of the first case might be scientific research on a topic which involves both molecular biology and entomology.

On the other hand, your topic might be related to the research interests of two faculty members of the same department. A thesis which includes the study of German and Russian attitudes toward a particular public policy might be well served by having faculty input from professors in each of these languages.

In consultation with your faculty advisors, you will prepare a proposal for your thesis/project which includes all pertinent information (see proposal development) .

When your research and writing are complete, provide your advisor with one bound paper or appropriate substitute. By Monday of the week before your oral presentation, deliver two bound copies to the Honors College. Your paper should be bound with a spiral and have a title page.
