TRADITIONAL THESISYou may complete a thesis in your major field of study under the direction of a faculty member. Most students choose a faculty member from their own department, but this is not required unless you are a major in the College of Business and Economics. The thesis is a particularly appropriate choice for you if you plan to attend graduate school, as it will provide valuable experience in researching, writing, and presenting academic work in a professional manner. A typical thesis will be 15-20 pages long. You will work closely with your advisor to determine the appropriate format for a thesis written in your discipline. Your final paper should conform to the standards that apply to your discipline. The content of your thesis will depend on your major. In the sciences and other technical fields, the thesis might be (or contribute to) publishable work based on original research, or it might be (or contribute to) an original design project. A thesis in music might be an original composition or a recital, while a project in Fine Arts might include an exhibit of your work. In all cases, a written paper accompanies the project created.
After the completion of your research and writing and by Monday of the week before your oral presentation, deliver one bound copy of your final paper to your advisor and two bound copies to the Honors College. Your paper must be bound with a spiral and have an approved title page. If your major is within the College of Business and Economics and you choose this option, you will register for one credit of UH 450 and two credits of the appropriate departmental 499 in CBE. Your topic must be business-related. |
