PASS WITH DISTINCTION AWARD

Being awarded Pass with Distinction on an Honors thesis is truly an outstanding honor for each and every student who receives this designation. A student's thesis advisor and the two thesis evaluators present at the oral presentation must unanimously agree that a student's work merits nomination for this award. A detailed letter of support is developed by the thesis advisor. This nomination letter and the student's thesis are reviewed by the Honors Council, which is comprised of six faculty who teach for Honors and have participated actively in the life of the college. The Honors Council makes the final decision as to which theses receive the Pass with Distinction award. Thus, multiple evaluators and multiple steps are involved in a nomination for this award.
The Honors College feels that all students who have been nominated for Pass with Distinction have demonstrated that their writing, speaking and research skills are at the highest level. Students whose work has been nominated should feel proud of their accomplishments, even if they do not receive the award. As the overall quality of all Honors theses improves, the College hopes that all honors theses will merit nomination for Pass with Distinction.
This web page includes the most recent examples of theses given Pass with Distinction for each college in which they occurred. These examples will provide a guide for future Honors students in the respective colleges. You can also view a list of all students who have received Pass with Distinction on their theses since 1996.
