Baty, M: Melissa Baty, a senior English major, presented a paper entitled “Scenes of the Sea: the Influence of Travelogues of Italy on Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway” at the Rocky Mountain MLA Conference, Missoula, October 8-11, 2003.

Cheney, V: The watercolors associated with Victoria Cheney’s thesis will be displayed in the gallery of the Interdisciplinary Design Institute on the WSU Spokane campus January 23 until February 13, 2004. The title of the exhibition will be “Line, Color and Culture on Highway 99.”

Cody, R: Rebecca L. Cody – BS, Animal Sciences, 1998; DVM 2002. Figures 3-9 and 3-10 in P.L. Senger’s (2003) Pathways to Pregnancy and Parturition (Ephrata, PA: Cadmus Professional Communications) were produced as part of Rebecca’s Honors College Thesis entitled “Intravascular Polymerization as a Method of Observing Countercurrent Exchange Systems in Bovine Reproductive Tracts,” 1998.

Davis, C: Christina M. Davis – BS, Animal Sciences, 2002. Figures 15-4 and 15-8 in P.L. Senger’s (2003) Pathways to Pregnancy and Parturition (Ephrata, PA: Cadmus Professional Communications) were produced as part of Christina’s Honors College Thesis entitled “A Full-Color Photographic Description of Postpartum Uterine Involution in the Dairy Cow,” 2002.

Fagerness, T: Taryn Fagerness won first prize at the Palouse Poetry Punch on Wednesday, October 17, 2001.

Hariadi, R.F.: Rizal F. Hariadi, Honors student, is the only student from the State of Washington selected for All-USA College Academic Honorable Mention by USA Today. See web-site: http://www.usatoday.com/life/academic/2002/2002-02-27-college-hm.htm

Hariadi, R.F.: Rizal Hariadi was a finalist for the Apker Award in Physics, given to the top undergraduate students in physics in the country. He was one of 3 finalists from Ph.D. granting institutions.

Hariadi, R.F.: Rizal Hariadi, Physics Major, was named Outstanding Undergraduate Research Scholar For January 2002. http://www.wsu.edu/~hariadi/

Hariadi, R.F.: Rizal Hariadi, Physics, won the prestigious Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) from Cal Tech University. Rizal will be 'surfing' while doing research between University of Santa Barbara and Pasadena all summer. He will be working with a mentor who is the very best in the field this summer, which will open many doors for graduate school, where he is planning to go next year.

Ketelsen, C: Christian Ketelsen, a WSU senior Honors student has been named the first Outstanding Undergraduate Research Scholar for 2003 by the College of Sciences. Christian will receive a B.A in philosophy and a B.S. in mathematics when he graduates in May. Last summer Christian worked on an applied mathematics research project with professor of mathematics and associate dean of sciences V.S. Manoranjan in a Department of Mathematics internship program. His research concerned creating mathematical models to understand the effect of light intensity on sleep patterns. Congratulations!

Maloney, S: Scott Maloney received the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Scholar award for March 2002. This award is from the College of Sciences and comes with a $250 book award.

Phelps. M: Matthew Phelps' work, "Drinking Trends at WSU: Simply the Facts," appeared in the Spokesman-Review in early May, 2002, as a commentary piece. It was placed in Sunday's Perspective section, as the front-page story of that section. It was a full-page piece, and he received feedback from many readers across the Inland Northwest (as did I!). - Betsy Krueger

Powell, R: Rebecca Powell, Electrical Engineering, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship to complete her Doctorate in Electrical Engineering. She also won the Best Poster award at CDADIC (Center for the Design of Analog Digital Integrated Circuits) Conference in Lincoln City, Oregon.
