Honors Students Participate in WSU Showcase

Each spring, WSU honors excellence in research by inviting faculty and students to participate in the Academic Showcase. Participants submit abstracts to a review committee and are selected based on the quality of their work. This year, seven Honors students who were primary authors on their research projects were chosen to participate. Six additional students who were secondary authors on research projects were also invited to participate. The primary authors included Sonja Weiss, Marian Marston, Sheila Doyle, Amanda Foust, Cora Fix, Christopher Wang, and Chris Bates. The secondary authors included Melissa Wu, Katherine Santiago, Christy Caldwell, John Leraas, Brett Ferro, and Cora Fix. Congratulations to all who were chosen for Showcase!

Honors Students Win Prizes at College of Science Poster Competition

A total of 15 Honors College students participated in the College of Science Poster Competition on Friday, March 31, 2006. First place prizes of $400 were given in three categories – Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Interdisciplinary/Mathematics. Sheila Doyle won 1st place in Biological Sciences for her research entitled “Sex Ratio Selection in Precocial Waterfowl, the Ruddy Duck.” Benjamin Logsdon won 1st place in the Interdisciplinary/Mathematics category for his work entitled “Monte Carlo Simulation of the Distribution of Variation of the G-matrix at Mutation-Drift Equilibrium.” Gretchen Dole won the Novice Research Award in Biological Sciences and a prize of $100. Other Honors College participants included Ryuji Imoto, Brenda Kroft, Stephanie Tintinger, Chris Bates, Marian Marston, Ethan Smith, Jonathan Leiner, Sonja Weiss, Neil Trotman, Divesh Aidasani, Christopher Bemis, and Kelsey Wertzler. Congratulations to you all!!
