Honors Program
in Veterinary Medicine
The Honors College Pre-Admitted Veterinary Medicine Program enables interested
students to complete a B.S./D.V.M. in seven years rather than eight. Academically
qualified students may be admitted provisionally to the WSU College of Veterinary
Medicine upon graduation from high school, entry into the University Honors
College, and successful completion of one year in the Honors College if
they have at least a 3.5 cumulative gpa. Students who are interested in
this program are advised during the summer before their freshman year at
Washington State University regarding appropriate courses to complete during
their first year in college. In the week preceding the sophomore year, applicants
for the pre-admitted program who have at least a 3.5 cumulative gpa, are
interviewed by the College of Veterinary Medicine. Student applications
include a letter of recommendation from two WSU professors, including at
least one Honors College professor, a letter from a veterinarian with whom
the applicant has already worked, and a personal statement from the student
explaining his or her interest in the field of veterinary medicine. Students
are notified immediately following the interviews regarding admission into
the pre-admitted program. Students who are chosen will complete their sophomore
and junior years in their undergraduate majors and enter the College of
Veterinary Medicine during their senior year if they have at least a 3.5
cumulative gpa. The first year in the College of Veterinary Medicine will
satisfy the final year of the undergraduate degree. Students who are not
chosen for the pre-admitted program are encouraged to apply for admission
to the College of Veterinary Medicine after they have completed the prerequisites
for admission.
Additional information regarding this program is available at the Honors
Center, (335-4505) or by contacting the College of Veterinary Medicine directly.
