GLEAM: Growing LEArners through Mindsets

Dear Parents,
As part of the math curriculum, your child’s school is participating in GLEAM – an educational research study designed to help students excel in math.  This study has been reviewed and approved for human subject participation by the Washington State University Institutional Review Board.

This research study is being done to help us learn about how students study to learn math lessons and which study strategies lead students to do well on math tests. Your child will be asked to answer questions about his or her academic beliefs and to complete a computer-based math tutorial. Participation in the study will take approximately 2 hours to complete, spread across several math class periods.

When the research study is complete, we will tell teachers at the school about our results and what we learned. If you would also like to hear about the results, please complete the enclosed information card with the email or physical address where you would like information sent.

The data for this study will be kept private and confidential to the extent allowed by federal and state law. The data will never be available to anyone other than the researcher named on the first page of this form and the research staff. Under rare circumstances your data may be reviewed by WSU officials or people from the agency that funded the study. The results of this study may be published or presented at professional meetings, but your child’s name will not be used or associated with the findings.

You can learn more about this research on our website - http://www.gleamstudy.com.
