Engl 402 Spring 2018
Research and Development Project
Overview
In the Proposal, you recommended research into a issue or need with veterans in your majors. In this project you will conduct that research, write a formal report, create a graphic which shows and showcases your research for a new audience, and present your research and graphic to the class. Teams of three to four will be formed from the Proposal teams and topics, and all members will be responsible for all aspects of the project.
Grade Breakdown:
- Report (due by 3 p.m. on April 6): 20% of grade.
- Graphic (due with Report by 3 p.m. on April 6): 7% of grade.
- Progress Report (due by 3 p.m. on March 19) and Completion Report (due by 3 p.m. on April 6): each is 3% of your grade and each is individual, not team.
- Presentation (April 4 and 6): 7 % of grade.
Note on the Proposal:
Proposal topics will be used to determine the topics for this project. You are welcome to use sources, information, and ideas from your Proposal, but the proposal should not be included with the final project documents. Please note you are welcome to adjust the focus of your topic from that presented in the Proposal as long as you do not change the general topic.
Report
Your team will draft a multi-part formal written report which includes a letter of transmittal, a summary and detailing of your research and findings, and a detailed analysis of your graphic. How your team drafts the report is up to you, but keep in mind the entire team is responsible for the final report. See the above link for more information.
Graphic
Your research must lead to a final graphic which visually shows the results of your research for an audience different than the audience for your report. Where your report documents the research and specific design principles you have used, this design showcases your technical design learning and abilities. A copy or other access (such as link to a working website) must be included with your report in order to get credit. See the above link for more information.
Progress and Completion Reports
Each team member is required to write a report halfway through the project to report on the status of your work and work to be done, and a report at the end to report on the final status of the project. See the above links for more information.
Presentation
This project will involve a formal presentation in which your team will present the results of your project. See the above link for more information.
In addition to the work you will need to complete outside of class, you will have several in-class workshop days and conferences with the instructor. Please see the schedule for more information and links.
