Research Proposal Peer Evaluation
Instructions: Read and review two teams' proposals.
Reading the Proposal
1. Do a quick overview of the proposal. Is it accessible and easy to follow? Write general comments on your first impression.
2. Understanding the proposal may not be complete and may be missing some parts, evaluate the current parts, based on:
- Introduction: Have the authors
- established a clear purpose and context for the proposed research?
- adequately answered the question, "Why is this research needed or worth doing?"
- presented a statement of limitations and/or the scope of the research and project?
- identified relevant literature to help readers understand the context for the proposed research
- outlined the organization of the proposal?
- What does the introduction do well? What could be improved, and how?
- Proposed Program/Methods:
- Do you understand their proposed methods of research?
- Do the proposed methods focus on what is proposed for research?
- What does this section do well? What could be improved, and how?
- Qualifications and Experience: Have the author provided sufficient qualifications and experience to conduct the proposed research?
3. Formatting and Organization.
- Does the proposal adhere to formatting standards for a proposal? (See Chapter 18 for an example). Is there anything missing or out of place?
- Does the proposal follow a clear organizational pattern, and are you able to locate the main parts of the proposal quickly?
- Overall, what are the strengths of the proposal's formatting and organization? Do you have any recommendations for improving the formatting and organization?
Look at the Proposal Review Rubric: what score would you give the proposal?
Overall, what do you like the most, or find the most effective, about this proposal? Why?
Are there any final suggestions you would like to make which may not have been addressed in earlier questions?
