The Daibutsu Hall in the Todai-ji Temple complex in Nara is reputed to be the largest wooden building in the world. It was first built in 746 CE, later destroyed in a war, then rebuilt in 1709 to be somewhat less wide but as tall and as deep as it had been originally.
