Besides its many ancient historical buildings, Nara is also the home of many beautiful gardens. In one of the loveliest, the Isui-en, we had lunch in the Sanshu restaurant. Although it's a modern building, its architecture is traditional and this picture conveys how little someone inside is separated from the world outdoors. Note the traditional rice-straw tatami mats on which one sits.
