After eating, we crossed the Plaza Mayor, where over the centuries all sorts of public occasions have taken place, including plays, bullfights, executions, and all sorts of pageantry. The section of the plaza in the center above consists of the royal apartments from which the monarch traditionally viewed the proceedings below.
