This word, which means “examine thoroughly” is often misused to
mean “glance over hastily.” Although some dictionaries accept the latter
meaning, it is not traditional.
When it is used to mean “look through” it is not standard to add “through” to “peruse.” It’s not “peruse through the records” but “peruse the records.”
